“Her grandparents teaching her the importance of maintaining her independence as a Black woman, of professing her Black pride. According to Tubbs, the country was still grappling with the long-term impacts of colonialism. Little was born in the Caribbean on the island of Grenada. That they needed to use their privileges for social justice. “They believed that with their faith and with their religion, they needed to lead people towards freedom. Her parents, who were religious leaders in the Ebenezer Baptist Church, taught her to embrace the power of her faith to create change. This was informative, not only in their careers and what they were passionate about, but 100% played a huge role in how they mothered their children.” Berdis was a writer, Louise also had this love and power over language herself.
